What should I expect at my Reiki session with SMH?

The first thing we'll do is go over the basics: Have you had a session before, do you want aromatherapy and sound therapy, etc. If it's your first time, we might discuss energy and what sensations you may or may not feel during a session.

Second, you'll hop up on the table and get comfy! Unlike massage therapy, you will stay completely clothed throughout your session. The majority of clients will lie on their backs, but if you prefer to lie on your side or sit in a chair, you can! You will be offered blankets and pillows to enhance your comfort level.

Next, you'll soften your gaze or close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let the Reiki relax you into a deep level of calm. With expressed permission, the practitioner may apply static touch to your arms or legs. Otherwise, the practitioner will hover their hands above, to the sides of, and around your body to move the energies as the practitioner senses them.

When your session is over, the practitioner will gently bring you back to an alert state, and if you have selected an intuitive Reiki session, they will then tell you what - if anything - they sensed from your Reiki session.

Does Reiki hurt?

Not at all! Reiki is Source energy, which is pure, gentle, and benevolent. For this reason, everything and everyone can receive Reiki without fear of harm.

Is Reiki a religion?

Reiki is not a religion. Reiki is a Japanese word that means "universal (REI) life energy (KI). Reiki practitioners come from all belief backgrounds, just as any other healing arts practitioner does. A religious (or otherwise) belief system isn't necessary to practice or receive a Reiki session.

How often should I have Reiki sessions?

There is no magic number when it comes to Reiki sessions. You can get them as little or as much as you'd like!

Historically, sessions lasted for hours, days, and weeks on end. In our modern times however, it's a general rule of thumb to space out sessions at least two weeks to one month apart. I believe this is for several reasons:

For mental and emotional issues, this will provide time to "absorb" and/or reflect on any issues that present themselves in the days and weeks after a session.

For physical issues, this time can be used to allow your body to fully "take in" the Reiki received to facilitate faster healing times, give your body the space to heal itself, or to just enjoy the relief from chronic pain.

For general relaxation purposes, you can come as little or as often as you would any other healing practitioner.
